Used Part Condition Guide
Universal Bricks
Last updated: [INSERT DATE]
Great Bricks Deserve Another Build!
At Universal Bricks, we believe every LEGO® piece deserves the chance to be part of something amazing.
Buying used LEGO® parts is a fantastic way to replace missing pieces, restore older sets, find discontinued elements and give perfectly usable bricks a new home.
We want you to know exactly what to expect when purchasing pre-owned parts from our store.
This guide explains how we describe used LEGO® pieces and the types of wear that may be present.
1. What Does "Used" Mean?
A part listed as Used has been previously owned, handled, assembled or stored.
Unlike new pieces, used parts may show signs of previous use.
These can include:
- Small surface scratches.
- Minor scuffs or marks.
- Light wear from normal building.
- Slight variations in colour caused by age.
- Minor cosmetic imperfections.
- Evidence of previous assembly and disassembly.
These are examples of potential wear, not a statement that every used part will have these characteristics.
Used pieces should remain suitable for their advertised purpose unless a limitation is clearly disclosed.
2. How We Describe Used Parts
Our standard used condition means a pre-owned piece that may show reasonable cosmetic wear consistent with its description.
Where a piece has more noticeable wear, damage or another significant characteristic, this should be clearly identified in the product listing.
[EDIT THIS SECTION IF YOU OPERATE A FORMAL GRADING SYSTEM, SUCH AS EXCELLENT, GOOD OR FAIR.]
3. Scratches and Surface Marks
Some used bricks and plates may have light scratches or surface marks.
These are particularly visible on glossy, dark-coloured or transparent pieces.
Such marks may be more noticeable under strong lighting or close inspection.
Significant scratching that materially affects a product's advertised condition should be disclosed in the relevant listing.
4. Colour Variations and Discolouration
LEGO® elements can vary slightly in appearance depending on age, storage and previous exposure to light.
Older parts may sometimes show:
- Slight yellowing.
- Fading.
- Minor differences in colour intensity.
- Age-related colour changes.
We aim to list parts under their correct LEGO® colour identification.
Where noticeable discolouration materially affects the advertised condition, this should be disclosed.
Please also remember that monitor and phone screens can display colours differently.
5. Printed and Decorated Parts
Printed LEGO® elements may show varying degrees of wear depending on their age and previous use.
Examples include:
- Light scratches across printed surfaces.
- Small areas of print wear.
- Minor fading.
Parts with significant print damage should be described accordingly.
If the appearance of a specific print is particularly important to your build or collection, please contact us before ordering.
6. Stickered Parts
Where we offer parts with stickers already applied, their condition may vary.
Stickers can occasionally show signs of previous handling or age, such as minor wear or edge lifting.
Any significant peeling, damage or missing detail should be identified in the product description.
Unless otherwise stated, parts described as stickered are supplied in their advertised sticker condition.
7. Transparent Parts
Transparent LEGO® pieces can be particularly prone to visible surface marks.
Even careful previous handling may leave minor scratches.
Used transparent pieces may therefore look different from brand-new elements.
Significant clouding, cracks or other noticeable defects should be clearly disclosed where relevant.
8. Older and Retired Pieces
One of the benefits of buying used parts is the opportunity to find older LEGO® elements that may no longer be produced.
These pieces may have been manufactured many years ago.
Age-related characteristics may be relevant to their condition and will be taken into account when describing them.
We aim to provide accurate information so customers can choose pieces suitable for their projects.
9. Cracked, Broken or Damaged Parts
Our ordinary used-condition listings are not intended to include undisclosed significant defects.
Examples of defects that should be separately identified include:
- Cracked bricks.
- Broken clips or connections.
- Missing or broken sections.
- Significant deformation.
- Damage affecting normal use.
Any intentionally offered damaged or specialist restoration items should be clearly described.
An item advertised with a particular defect must still match its description and comply with applicable consumer law.
10. Functionality and Fit
Used pieces should be reasonably suitable for their advertised purpose.
Depending on age and use, some pre-owned parts may feel different from unused pieces when assembled.
If a part has materially reduced functionality, this should be disclosed where relevant.
Please contact us if you receive a piece that does not function as reasonably expected or does not match its description.
11. Product Photographs
Some product listings may use representative photographs rather than images of the exact piece supplied.
As used pieces vary, the precise cosmetic appearance may differ from representative images.
Where a listing promises a specific condition, design, colour, decoration or characteristic, the supplied product must match that description.
[INSERT WHETHER CUSTOMERS CAN REQUEST PHOTOGRAPHS OF SPECIFIC PARTS BEFORE PURCHASE.]
12. Cleaning and Preparation
[INSERT YOUR ACTUAL CLEANING AND INSPECTION PROCESS.]
For example, describe whether your parts are visually inspected, sorted, cleaned or checked for obvious damage before sale.
Only include cleaning or inspection claims that accurately reflect your handling process.
13. New vs Used: What's the Difference?
| Feature | New Parts | Used Parts |
|---|---|---|
| Previous ownership or use | Unused | Previously owned or handled |
| Cosmetic marks | Generally minimal | May have signs of wear |
| Colour appearance | Usually consistent with new stock | May show age-related variation |
| Original packaging | Not necessarily included | Not normally included |
| Consumer rights | Statutory protections apply | Statutory protections apply |
Both conditions can provide excellent options depending on your requirements and budget.
14. Your Consumer Rights
Buying used products does not mean giving up your statutory rights.
All goods sold by Universal Bricks must comply with applicable consumer legislation.
If a used part arrives faulty, materially different from its description or otherwise fails to meet legal requirements, you may be entitled to a remedy.
Please see our Returns & Refunds Policy for further information.
15. Not Sure Which Condition to Choose?
We're always happy to help.
If you are completing a display model, restoring a vintage set or searching for a particular piece, please contact us before purchasing if you have questions about its condition.

Returns & Refunds
Universal Bricks
Last updated: [INSERT DATE]
We want you to be completely happy with your Universal Bricks order.
We understand that sometimes you may order the wrong piece, change your mind or discover that something isn't quite right.
Our returns policy explains how to return products, request refunds and report problems with your order.
1. Change-of-Mind Returns
If you are purchasing as a consumer, you normally have the legal right to cancel an online order within 14 days after the day you receive your goods, without giving a reason.
If goods from the same order are delivered separately, the cancellation period generally begins after you receive the final item.
To cancel, please notify us clearly by email or another written statement before the cancellation period ends.
You then have a further 14 days to send the relevant items back.
2. How to Return an Order
To arrange a return, please contact us at:
Email: [INSERT EMAIL]
Include your order number and details of the items you wish to return.
Please send returns to:
Universal Bricks Returns
[INSERT RETURNS ADDRESS]
We recommend packing items securely and keeping proof of postage.
Please ensure individual LEGO® parts are suitably contained so that small pieces cannot escape from the packaging.
Original product packaging is not required to exercise your statutory cancellation rights.
3. Return Postage
For change-of-mind cancellations, customers are responsible for the direct cost of returning goods, provided this was communicated before purchase.
If we supply incorrect, damaged or faulty goods, we will cover reasonable return costs where required by law.
Please contact us before returning faulty or incorrectly supplied products so we can discuss an appropriate solution.
4. Refunds
When you validly cancel an order, we will refund the applicable amount using your original payment method unless you expressly agree otherwise.
If the entire order is cancelled, we will also refund the original standard delivery charge, up to the cost of our least expensive standard delivery option.
Additional charges for upgraded delivery services are not normally refundable.
We will issue your refund without undue delay, and no later than 14 days after we receive the returned goods or evidence that you have sent them back, whichever is earlier.
Please allow additional time for your payment provider to display the refund.
5. Condition of Returned Items
You may inspect and handle the goods as necessary to establish their nature, characteristics and functioning, as you would in a physical shop.
If you handle the goods beyond what is necessary and reduce their value, we may make a deduction from the refund where permitted by law.
This applies to both new and used parts.
We cannot impose deductions simply because an item has been appropriately inspected.
6. Incorrect or Missing Parts
As we sell thousands of individual LEGO® pieces, we understand the importance of receiving exactly the right parts.
If your order contains an incorrect or missing piece, please contact us with:
- Your order number.
- The relevant part number or description.
- Details of the issue.
- Photographs, where helpful and available.
We will investigate and arrange an appropriate remedy.
We will not intentionally replace a missing part with a different colour, design or condition without your agreement.
7. Faulty or Damaged Products
All goods must meet the standards required by applicable UK consumer legislation, including the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
If a product is faulty, not as described or otherwise fails to meet legal requirements, you may be entitled to a refund, repair, replacement or price reduction, depending on the circumstances.
For qualifying goods, consumers generally have a short-term right to reject within 30 days.
Other statutory remedies can apply after this period.
These rights also apply to used goods, taking into account their age, condition, description and price.
8. Used LEGO® Parts
Used parts may show reasonable signs of previous ownership, as explained in our Used Part Condition Guide.
Normal wear that has been accurately described does not automatically mean an item is faulty.
However, a used part must still meet applicable legal requirements.
If a part arrives with an undisclosed fault or is materially different from its description, please contact us.
9. Exchanges
If you would like a different colour, part or item, please contact us.

We take care when picking and packing orders, but mistakes can occasionally happen.
If your order contains a missing, incorrect or damaged piece, please contact us with your order number and a description of the issue.

We will investigate and provide an appropriate solution.
9. Part Identification and Search Tools
Our website may provide tools to help customers search for LEGO® parts by name, number, photograph or set.
These tools are intended to assist with part identification but may occasionally produce incorrect suggestions.
